TRANSIT DRIVER

Public Works TRANSIT DRIVER Public Works Department – Transit Division Full-time position. Under general supervision of the Transit Dispatcher/Transit Services Coordinator, to operate a Deviated Flex Route/Dial-A-Ride vehicle for transportation of passengers along a predesignated route deviating for ADA qualified passengers. Operates gas or diesel bus on routes for transit agency. Observes state and city speed and safety regulations and company customer service and safety policies. Job Requirements Duties and Assignments May Include: • Receives route assignment and necessary materials at the start of the shift. • Conducts a pre-trip vehicle inspection per DOT requirements. • Arrives at the starting point 10 minutes before departure. • Picks up and drops off passengers at designated stops, following safety protocols. • Collects fares, issues transfers, and answers questions about routes and services. • Assists passengers, including those with disabilities, following proper procedures. • Reports emergencies and safety concerns to dispatch via radio. • Completes daily reports, including fare collection and incident documentation. • Reports accidents immediately and provides first aid as needed. • May assist with dispatch duties, record-keeping, and emergency responses. • Moves buses within the yard and assists with vehicle cleaning. • May be assigned to chartered trips or special events. Minimum Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Knowledge of record-keeping, first aid, and local geography. • Familiarity with DOT regulations for public transportation. • Basic math skills for fare collection and reporting. • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. • Ability to handle busy environments and follow instructions. • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills. • Physically capable of operating a bus and assisting passengers. • Able to work independently with a flexible schedule, including split shifts.
