Job Description
PLEASE NOTE: This position is designated as remote. Remote work is defined as full-time employment conducted outside of a VA facility or in VA-leased spaces. The option for remote work will be assessed continuously, and the selected individual may need to return to a VA office if required. The VA will categorically exempt military spouses authorized to engage in remote work and spouses of U.S. Foreign Service members from Agency plans to return all eligible employees to in-person work instead of remote or telework arrangements. Any selected candidate must live within 50 miles of a VA Medical Center. Appling comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, disease processes, treatment modalities, diagnostic tests, medications, procedures Selecting/assigning codes from the current version of several coding systems to include current versions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and/or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Adhering to accepted coding practices, guidelines and conventions when Appling codes based on guidelines specific to certain diagnoses, procedures, and other criteria Monitoring ever-changing regulatory and policy requirements affecting coded information for the full spectrum of services provided by the VAMC Timely compliance with coding changes is crucial to the accuracy of the facility database as well as all cost recovery programs Performing a comprehensive review of the patient health record to abstract medical, surgical, ancillary, demographic, social, and administrative data to ensure complete data capture. Developing performance standards and conducts performance evaluations for subordinate staff. Keeping employees informed of management goals and objectives and higher levels supervisors informed of employee participation and concerns. Scheduling the sequence of work and operations on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis Assuring even workflow and distribution, expeditious handling of priorities and the meeting of deadlines Revising schedules/assignments to meet changes in workload considering peak loads, availability of manpower and time limits Making changes in organization and assignment of duties to provide improvements, promote job satisfaction and increase productivity. Preparing workload and production reports; reports on operations and problems encountered Presenting proposed requests for resource needs based on past experience, anticipated staffing, equipment, and space. Formulating and issuing written instructions and procedures and special instructions for non-routine or complex assignments or to clarify published guides Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30a.m. - 4:00p.m. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is a virtual position.
