The Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Urgent Care Physician located within in Clinical Resource Hub Service. The VHA Nationally Designated-Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) is a strategic program designed to provide Team Based Primary Care, Specialty Mental Health, and other specialty services in each VISN across the Enterprise, utilizing existing and emerging technologies. Telehealth technology improves Veterans' access to health care by matching clinical provider supply with demand, especially in rural areas where it is difficult to recruit. Using technologies such as video conferencing, patients can be seen in remote areas throughout the nation by providers who are associated with VA Medical Centers. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Authorized: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Urgent Care Provider is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with medical and surgical diseases, accomplished through virtual telephone, VVC, and CVT clinics and perform tele urgent care services virtually through the Clinical Contact Center program. The incumbent actively participates in patient care and provide high quality care regardless of the modality of care (Telephone, VVC, CVT). The Urgent Care Clinician is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with medical diseases and communicating the results in a timely to the Veteran per VHA protocol. This position also requires the incumbent to provide direct outpatient care as a member of a virtual interprofessional primary care team (e.g., PCMHI, Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.). Most care will be provided virtually to Spoke sites, using telehealth equipment. Physical deployment to Spoke site may be required in the event of critical emergencies. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and providing Urgent/Same Day Care services to the VISN 7 Clinical Contact Center, and to participating facilities. Provider shifts are scheduled round-the-clock to provide consistent level of care for VISN 7 Veterans. Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Perform initial histories and physical examination on outpatients using CVT technology. Provide urgent outpatient care for contact center patients. Screen outpatients to determine the new for further care. Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice. Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs). Review the need for and order health promotion and disease prevention measures. Initiate, respond to, and expediate request for consultations, special tests and studies. Provide education and counseling of patients and families in pain self-management, active treatment modalities, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs. As appropriate, participate in interprofessional focused patient chart reviews, team meetings, team huddles, and shared medical appointments. Work Schedule: 24/7/365 - Rotating hours including weekends, holidays, evenings and nights. Subject to change based on agency needs. The night shift schedule will be compressed with eight 10-hour shifts per pay period for the Eastern Time Zone. This includes all weekends and holidays. Shifts will vary per pay period in order to meet the needs of the service. *Overnight call will be required for 2-3 additional nights per month in the event a provider calls off from a shift.*
