Job Description
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Position is remote eligible and is currently exempted from return to office (RTO) requirements. Remote exempted positions are reviewed every 6 months and DOES NOT imply permanent remote work status. This position may be required to report to an office in the future. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Provides urgent/emergent care via telephone or video and work collaboratively with other professionals in the V23 Clinical Resource Hub to support first contact resolution. Receives referrals and provides direction for assessment, medical care, and follow-up. Performs histories and physical examinations on patients. History and physical examinations will mostly rely on the use of Telehealth technology. Screens patients to determine need for further care. Conducts handoff for direct referral to VISN 23 medical centers for emergent or urgent medical. Prescribes medications within defined scope of practice and orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and imaging. Consults may also need to be ordered. Provides education and counseling of patients and families as it relates to medical conditions, follow-up care, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Provides clinically appropriate follow-up care for previously evaluated patients based on results of lab work, and imaging. Minimal administrative work, but the physician will be required to attend staff meetings, team meetings, and complete peer review evaluations. Emphasizes evidence-based medicine, urgent care clinical practice standards, care coordination, the use of computerized medical record system and continuous quality improvement based on individualized provider data. Responsible for planning and carrying out the assignment independently, resolving most of the conflicts that arise, coordinating the work with others as necessary, and interpreting policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives. Provides Veterans with an optimal patient experience while supporting the Clinical Resource Hub and Service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, caregivers, stakeholders, and all VHA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers constructively and appropriately. Shall conform to all VHA and local directives related to safety, health, hazardous materials, and emergency management directives. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Four Days a Week (Monday-Friday), 8:00am - 6:00pm CT The position requires occasional work on minor holidays to support operational needs.
